A Simple Woman's Daybook - June 1st Edition

For Today...

Outside my window... a BEAUTIFUL first day of June! The sun is out, there's a nice breeze, it's still cool in the morning, birds are chirping, and I can't wait to hit the pool later today!

I am thinking... I can't believe some more of my youth group kids have graduated high school... Every year at this time I feel old! AND I got an email a week ago, that another former youth group kid is married and has a kid... I figured out that there are at least 10 new kids in the world with parents that were my youth group kids! Yikes. Time flies, huh?!

I am thankful... for the construction crew, across the street, starting a little later today... sleeping in was wonderful!

From the kitchen... nothing new this week. We're using stuff up before we head out of town for the weekend. So leftovers and odd pairings - here we come! Ha ha ha.

I am wearing... hmph. Back to my usual Mondays. I'm in my jammies. Very comfy and cozy.

I am creating... Still working on an organized closet. That's the project for the week. First, my closet, then the craft closet. Uff-da. (Never got to it last week!)

I am going... to Pittsburgh this Thursday! Woo-hoo! I'll get several days with my sister, Em, my brother-in-law, Karlin, and my cute-as-a-button niece, Finley! I can't wait!

I am reading... "Let Your Life Speak," by Parker Palmer, "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson, and "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller, and today I'm starting "Reading the Bible, Cover to Cover in 90 Days" - wish me luck (it's my summer challenge to myself)!

I am hoping... to get a lot of work done this week, so I don't feel like I have to bring it with me to Pittsburgh!

I am hearing... hammers, drills, construction equipment... Ahhh... the joys of living in a new-er development.

One of my favorite things... the discovery of "skorts." It's my new favorite summer clothing - the comfort of shorts, the look of a cute little skirt! They've come a long way in recent years, baby!

A few plans for the rest of the week... Pool, pool, pool (I hope!), going to a speaker about Ampersands Families, confirmation interviews, working on my last sermon for Faith UMC, and jetting off to Pittsburgh (where I will attend another book group!)...

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

(Bailey and I curled up in our favorite "Ireland" blanket this weekend. Notice how "wooley" her hair is! I love it when it's this curly... Unfortunately, next week, she willing be getting her summer shave... And then she will be too embarrassed to go for walks... Life is so unfair!)

Things I am thankful for today:

1. Day one of "Bible in 90 days" challenge completed. 89 to go.

2. My Bible that was given to me for my confirmation, 18 years ago.

3. The doctors and nurses at Methodist Hospital - for taking care of my dad today. He's still there - prayers would be appreciated!

4. Blue skies.

5. Bananas.

6. My parents' neighbor, Leoni. She's good stuff.

7. My hubby taking me out for a burger and a cold beer after a long day.

8. "Here Come the Newlyweds" TV show - so funny.

9. Lilac bushes.

10. Peonies.

Is there a book by that title (Reading the Bible in 90 Days) or is that your plan to read it cover to cover in 90 days? I started to read it cover to cover in early 2002... not done yet. In fact, not out of Genesis yet... oh, dear.

Your dad, you and the whole family will be in my prayers. Do any of you need anything?
