Do you ever have one of those days where something just smacks you upside the head and you just can't shake it?! I'm having one of those days...
In a conversation with a friend today, they asked me if what I read in a recent book was something I believed. I said, "yes." The friend went on to tell me that they found that shocking and unsettling. They believed the book to be heretical and disturbing... and scripturally naive.
I found the book to be liberating and grounded in grace - loving a message of God being too big for us ever to shove into a box or formula... But instead, to live in God's grace, in relationship with God, and to share that grace with those around us.
I've never believed in the judgement of God. Or maybe I just simply choose to live in grace and love, and leave the judging up to God... Either way, I'm ok with seeing my faith and spirituality as between God and I, as a mystery, and as a journey. I don't pretend to have all the answers - and I certainly would never tell someone else that their journey was wrong.
Ugh. Now that THAT is off my chest... I must finish my next heretical book and get ready for book group...
May God meet you where you are at and fill you with grace and love today!

Wow!! I'm proud of you!!
For the record, I have always known you to be "heretical and disturbing".
Way to go, Megan! Sounds like those were tough words you heard and I'm sure you handled it with grace and dignity. You always do.
{{{hugs}}} So where do you go from here? Hang in there!
Well, you know my opinion...God loves you and me and whoever the conversation was with and anyone else who loves Him or not. :)
You are a living example of God's love in so many people's lives and I think that is more important then anything else.
I love the books we read in our group and I really think we are all growing and learning from them!
You handled it with grace. I'd rather be on a graceful journey than a fear-filled/judgmental one any day. You are my hero.
Like father, like daughter. I'm proud of you Megan. I find God everywhere (especially in the simple and sweet things in life). I run from the pontificating!
It gets complicated as we all seek to know the Unknown...with only what we have known, doesn't it?
This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend. She shared that she is working on not assuming that God is judging her harshly for all her mistakes, but how hard it is because that's EXACTLY what her mother did. We all carry with us the experiences we've had in life and they shape so much, including our view of God. Grace isn't something everyone has experienced in a day-to-day way, let alone a deep spiritual way.
I don't even know the issue that came up, but it is bringing up in me a question of what God expects of us, and what we perceive he expects of us. Hmmmmmm....I think I want to have a long conversation with you about Grace!
Anyway, it sounds like you handled yourself well. I hope you have found some peace and are able to be calm in the testimony you have of God. Blessings to you!
